Mantle clock in Grandfather style - possibly late Victorian
This small wooden mantle clock and case is probably dated around 1890 to 1910 - it looks to be slightly crude in design and manufacture suggesting it is more of handmade project clock - still a great antique and it looks lovely. Very authentic.
The clock is marked British and bears the makers name 'Newport' - it is not working.
The case is very plain and wooden but has then been decorated using what apears to be a very old 'wallpaper' - which feels like a very thin almost leatherlike material. It is well worn and has plenty of signs of age and wear and tear.
The handmade feel is comfirmed by the addition of the slightly crude 'royal' emblems (transfers or stickers) to make this seem like a British commemortive style clock.
The entire clock measures approximately 38cm (high) x 10cm x 7cm. So it is pretty tall !
